Do I need to "renew" my Flight Instructor Certificate?

Starting January 2025, Flight Instructor Certificates will no longer be published with an expiration date on them. HOWEVER, you will still need to "renew" your certificate every 24 months. And you will still need to complete the process through IACRA. There is a 3-month grace period, so it is recommended that you start the "renewal" process at 22 months.  FAA RULE

How do I "renew" my flight instructor certificate?

The easiest way is to use a "recent" Military Instructor checkride. The checkride needs to be in the preceding 24 months. The second easiest way is to complete an online training (Flight Instructor Renewal Course FIRC). There are several companies to choose from, but we recommend American Flyers. You will need to submit an IACRA application and have it processed, so in both cases "renew" 2 months early.
